Tips for purchasing art supplies

There are lots of ads on my Instagram feed about art supplies. Try this brand, no try that brand. This one is having a big sale while that one looks overpriced. Subscribe to this box and get new art supplies every month. This one gives you projects to try and step-by-step instructions to get their result.

It’s all interesting, but have you ever tried them yourself? How many of the comments and reviews are from paid contributors? Which ones do we take seriously? Sometimes reviews are misleading or biased. Not all can be trusted.

Look for consistency, even if it means having to scan through a few pages of reviews. Don’t stay on one site, leave the Instagram comment section for google reviews, YouTube videos reviewing products, and Amazon reviews. I find the most variety on Amazon.

Trying new things is a risk but can come with beautiful rewards. Recently, I picked up watercolors. I’d seen way too many Arteza ads and couldn’t contain my curiosity any longer. I ordered the Watercolor bundle. It came with 2- 32 sheet watercolor pads, one 36 half-pans in a metal tin that included wells, and a waterbrush.

If you’ve never tried a waterbrush, get one. I guarantee you will love it. I ordered a set of 6 different sizes and styles.

Look for more on the watercolor bundle review next week!

None of this is sponsored or paid for by Arteza or any other art supply company. Everything listed is my honest opinion.

  1. Glad to see you back posting again, Amanda! Not much of an artist myself – takes me forever to draw anything decent – but I tried. Anyway, hope youโ€™re doing well and good advice in this post.
